My name is Eryka Nyambura, I am currently a grade 12 student set to sit my exams in March 2021. I love swimming and playing squash when I’m outdoors, I also love baking when I’m at home. Artificial intelligence is the future of everything, and it will soon be affecting our lives one way or another, so I’m more than glad to know what it is about. I would also love to use it, and create something with AI that will impact society positively. Physics is my favourite subject in highschool because it deals with how things work and personally that is very interesting, in fact I want to become an aeronautical engineer. I hope one day I will pursue my engineering career and add AI into it.

My AI experience

My AI experience was Awesome! I was not really a beginner per say, but of course, I needed some introductions here and there. It was a ten day bootcamp in Dubai hosted by Stanford alumnus, my instructor’s name was Sehj. He explained the whole concept very well, and made the class interesting. We did practices and made us think out of the box, and at the end of the day, I always learnt something new. I worked on the project for AI and healthcare, it was basically about AI detecting pneumonia in a patient. We used everything we had learnt and applied them into our project, we worked on it for a week, and then we had a presentation. At the end of the camp, we were all awarded with certificates of achievement, and some concept cards, which I still read up to date.

Topic I will be talking about.

Guidance, I will be talking about self guidance into AI, it’s about learning, understanding and applying the information. Keeping in mind that AI is tomorrow’s heart it is important to know exactly what you will be dealing with in your life. Most things nowadays are using AI, from self driving cars, to climate management and cybersecurity and many others, it is exciting to come up with new innovative challenges. There are 4 steps that one needs to follow to successfully teach themselves about AI in engineering. It will involve mathematical backgrounds, deep learning courses and machine learning courses, and then a project at the end. The courses are very practical and you will find yourself building deep neural networks. It is possible to become an AI engineer by yourself, it just needs practice and time. I will work step by step in the other blogs that I will publish, so that everything is dealt with critically.

My target audience.

People who are interested in finding their own way through AI in engineering and building their own projects using AI knowledge. Anyone who is practical and is ready to build their own things using AI, also anyone who is ready to take their time in learning the process and an open minded person who does not only rely on a teachers’ knowledge and help, but also on themselves.

What I’m planning to achieve.

I want to encourage as many people to have open minds, and have the sense of creativity and critical thinking. I’m also interested in learning how I can be able to teach myself to become an AI engineer.
